A colostomy bag is a bag used by people with colostomy. Colostomy is a type of ostomy surgery. The bag is attached to the abdomen and collects stool through a surgically created opening called stoma. Colostomy bags can be part of a one-piece or two-piece systems. Questions? Ask the members of our site in the ostomy forum. A two-piece systems consists of a flange (also called a wafer, mounting plate or baseplate) and a colostomy bag. The bag can be attached or detached from the flange.
In a one-piece system the colostomy bag and the flange come in one and cannot be separated.
